On the back of LiveWire’s original electric motorcycle the LiveWire One, the company has released details on its new middleweight street-tracker named the S2 Del Mar.
A significant stumbling block with Harleys original LiveWire was price and although this did improve significantly when the Livewire brand separated from Harley Davidson, the LiveWire One still remains a relatively expensive bike at US$22,500. With the Del Mar LiveWire have gone for a more affordable, lighter option for consumers. Weighing in at less than 200kg (440lbs) and producing 80 hp with a 0-60mph time of 3.5 secs the Del Mar is no slouch. It is slower than the original LiveWires time of 3.1 seconds, but slightly quicker than the well performing Zero SR/F at 3.7 seconds.
Built on LiveWires new Arrow platform which provides a modular design for future models the Del Mar uses a similar technology to other motorcycle manufacturers where the engine is a stressed member of the frame to reduce weight. Only in the case of the Del Mar it’s the battery that utilises this feature.
Range on the Del Mar is a claimed 100 miles (160kms) which is less than the LiveWire One at 146 miles (235kms) but the new model is also 25% lighter than it’s earlier counterpart so a justified compromise with cost and weight. The Del Mar is also limited to Level 1 and 2 charging so no fast charging available on this model.
LiveWire offered a limited “Del Mar Launch Edition” which was individually numbered with an exclusive paint scheme for $17,699US. This offering sold out in a matter of minutes from release. The full production model is scheduled for sale in mid 2023 with a target price of US$15,000. At US$7,500 less than the LiveWire One the Del Mar is a much more competitively priced offering from LiveWire.
