BMW CE 04 Electric Scooter

BMW has launched the CE 04 electric scooter in a forward looking and bold style designed for urban two wheeled mobility.

Originally a concept vehicle in 2020 the CE 04 is now in production and replaces the C Evolution released in 2014. BMW has stated it will no longer produce combustion vehicles in its scooter range so the days of dead dinosaur powered urban two wheelers are over for this company.

The CE 04 motor produces 42hp at peak with a continuous output of 20hp. Not outstanding figures but the real interest is the 62nm of torque which will get you from 0 to 50kms (30 miles) per hour in just 2.6 seconds. More than enough to ensure you’re first off the line from a traffic light.

BMW are also releasing a less powerful version of the scooter at 31hp. The benefit of this model being you don’t require a motorcycle endorsement and can ride the scooter on your standard car license.

130km (81miles) is BMWs quoted useable range of the CE 04 which should be more than enough for your daily urban commute. Full recharge of the battery is 4 hours via a standard outlet or 45 mins for a 20% to 80% charge via fast charger. Top speed is 120km (75miles) per hour, enough for highway travel when needed.

The CE 04 also has three riding modes, Rain which reduces power output, Eco where range is prioritised, Road for optimised power, and an optional Dynamic mode for maximising performance. Traction control and ABS come as standard with the option to add in advanced versions of these features such as corning ABS.

A real enhancement of the CE 04 is BMW’s 10.25 inch full colour TFT with the Motorrad Connected app. The display can be customised in various configurations including integrated navigation and phone connectivity. Also included is a vented USB-C charging compartment specifically for your phone.

BMW are also offering a jacket with integrated features and a smart touch panel. This touch panel on the jacket sleeve enables you to activate features such as light piping on the jacket for added visibility and connectivity via the BMW Motorrad Connected app.

Others features are an under seat compartment that will store your helmet or whatever else you need, a reverse gear and automatic parking brake. Reverse on a scooter might sound strange but with the CE 04 weighing in at 231 kgs (510 pounds) it could be a real bonus in those tricky urban parking situations.

Pricing is around €12,000 Euros or approximate $14,000 US dollars depending on the configuration. The base version comes in white but this can be upgraded to Magellan grey metallic colour with black/orange seat for €192 (US$225).
