Horwin CR6 The Retro Commuter

Slim and low the Horwin CR6 is a retro-styled electric commuter that is Austrian designed and Chinese-made.

The Horwin CR6 fits perfectly into the commuter class electric motorcycle. Ideal for a short trip across town and back, then recharge in the garage overnight. Happy slicing through traffic this electric motorcycle has plenty of advantages over its petrol powered cousins, more power with a higher top speed than a scooter UK riders get to skip any road tax.

Build quality wise the Horwin CR6 is a mixed bag, the aluminum frame has a nice finish to it but other components such as brakes and drive chain look on the cheaper side. The bike also lacks ABS instead adopting a linked system that splits braking force between the front and rear brake discs under heaving braking.

She ain’t too heavy either, at 134kg that’s comparable in weight to the Yamaha YS125. And with the weight mainly set low down stability and handling are a breeze around the city.

The Horwins CR6’s air-cooled electric motor makes 8bhp, compared to the Yamaha YS125 with 10.4bhp it’s not exactly inspiring but it will reach a top speed of 60mph and is quick off the mark. Aided by a good delivery of power low down and the absence of gears and a clutch to slow you down.

Horwin claim a range of 90 miles from it’s 3.96kWh battery but in reality riding around the city provides closer to 60. Use the top speed of the Horwin in the open roads and that will go down to 30. Not exactly impressive but the Horwin CR6 is designed as a city commuter and 60 miles will cover most urban users needs.

Recharging doesn’t get any simpler than a standard three-pin household socket with a full charge achieved in around four hours.
The ‘fuel tank’ also provides a small amount of storage space and a USB port to charge your smartphone on the go.
