Niu Presents An Affordable 100mph Electric Motorcycle

The Chinese manufacturer has unveiled the NIU RQi electric motorcycle which will provide another option for commuters wanting affordable urban transportation. Launched alongside their NIU TQi three-wheeler model the NIU RQi has a range of 80 miles based on an average speed of 30 mph.

The NIU RQi is powered by a mid-mounted 30 kW electric motor that has an impressive top speed of 100 mph. The motor is belt driven for the first stage reduction and then conventional chain driven to the rear wheel.

Power is supplied via two Panasonic removable batteries that provide a combined 7 kWh of energy. These battery packs are connected to the internet via a 5G connection providing up to date information on their status at any location.

The RQi also has a lot of other Smart technology for the rider. A GPS module via internet connection will provide real time tracking should the bike be stolen and the 5G connection also enables the motorcycle to receive over-the-air software updates. Another smart feature of the NIU RRQi-GT is the adaptive front headlight that lights upright when cornering, despite the bikes lean angle.

Pricing is expected to be around US$8000 or $6700 Euros. NIU already has a strong foothold in Asia and Europe and after being made available to the local Chinese market the RQi will become available in other Asian countries before making its way into Europe and North America.
