The calibration between Taiwanese manufacturer Kymco and Chinese Ghangzhou Guangyang Motorcycle Company has released this sporty new electric scooter with a two speed automatic transmission.
We love the overall geometry and look of this scooter, just have to wonder if one of the designers owns a 2021 Yamaha XSR700 as the colour scheme of gold rims and white, black, red panels looks quite similar.
The Kymo F9 is designed to look and perform differently to the other scooters in the market. Its two speed transmission is something we haven’t seen on other electric scooters to date and will provide a real point of difference. Kymco unveiled the F9 back in November 2020 and recent reports are that the production version has been confirmed. Kymco will offer multiple variants of the F9 with different range and output capabilities in an attempt to capture as large as possible audience.
The Kymco F9 is powered by a brushless DC motor providing a healthy 9.4kW of power and 30Nm of torque. A 40Ah lithium-ion battery is fixed in the scooter and acts as part of the frame structure. This allows the F9 to obtain a kerb weight of 107kg (236 lb) which includes the 17kg (37 lb) battery. Having the battery as a load bearing part of the frame is something we are seeing more often in electric motorcycles as it provides a real benefit to overall weight savings.
Top speed of the F9 is 113 km/h (70 mph) with a range of 121 kms (75 miles). Recharge time is 2 hours when utilising the built in fast charger.
The Kymco F9 certainly stands out in the crowded space of scooters and we will eagerly await its arrival. The scooter is expected in China and Southeast Asian markets first by the end of 2021 or early 2022.
